I must admit it — I am a little under-whelmed with this new slicker version of the show.
I loved it on the CW and then continued to watch each marathon on BET as if it was my first time over and over again (and, you know BET can pimp a show).
Now – I am in a quandary.
Do I continue to watch it because I want to support this brand or do I simply go back to watching ‘The Good Wife?’
I thought the ‘older’ version showcased smarter dialogue, the characters had chemistry, and, each episode had enough swag but not too over the top to make it unbelievable?
The characters on BET are too remixed: over the top, real stereotypical (I love me some Tasha Mack, but now she is just a momma with catchy one liners and no depth). Melanie and Derwin are rarely together in a scene; Malik is being a prick, however, I don’t feel for his character, and, Kelly and Jason are relegated to the sidelines (literally).
Is the chemistry gone now that the show is on BET or is it the fact that the show was in syndication for so long that perhaps, we really came to love a mediocre show with brown faces? Or, is it just BET giving us some Ghetto – fab version of The Game that is under-whelming?
Whatever it is – I hope they fix it so I can enjoy the authenticity of Melanie, Derwin, Malik, Tasha, Kelly and Jason. Can we just get an exceptional original show on BET?
